The story takes place in ancient Egypt, telling the story of the Egyptian commander Radames who falls in love with the enslaved Ethiopian princess Aida, even though he has already been promised to Amneris, the daughter of the pharaoh. An interplay of passionate love and political necessities determines the tragic course of the story.
