Canadian-American singstress Alanis Morrisette has been one of the most important and successful female performers of the past ten-something years. What more: a role model for the recent breed of popchicks with guitars, vigour, cheeky wit and insight tightly controlling their own image at the same time being charts-compatible. Alanis launched her career with two rather small-time dance-pop albums („Alanis” 1991, „Now Is The Time” 1992). The breakthrough and the international reputation came with „that certain song” and „that certain album” that is „Ironic” and the record seller album „Jagged Little Pill” in 1995. The measure of its success is worth an extra sentence: it sold 30 million copies worldwide and Grammy Awards 1996 earned Morrisette three wins (best female artist, best rock album, best album). Although the follow-up failed to duplicate the astonishing success of „Jagged Little Pill” – which was an outstanding exception in pophistory – „Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie” is still a remarkable record so much that from an artistic point of view and in terms of passion it even outstrips its predecessor. For that matter, Miss Morrisette has not exactly made much haste in the last ten years. She released but two complete albums with new material („Under Rug Swept” 2002, „So Called Chaos” 2004) along with two live-albums („Alanis Unplugged” 1999, „Jagged Little Pill Acoustic” 205) and two compilations („Feast On Scraps” 2002, „The Collection” 2005) in addition. This makes it even more special that the new album „Flavors Of Entanglement” is coming out this year and is to be followed by a world tour calling at Sziget, too!
